Brief – Day 3

See Day 1 and Day 2 for more details. Return to Winter Escape to Craig’s details.

Day 3 – approximately 6.70km
Time on track – approximately 4 hours including breaks (5 hours if going over the summit)

Your last day of this winter hiking adventure will start with packing up your camp and enjoying the last breakfast at King Spur Hut.
There is no need to rush this morning. Most of the way back will be downhill.

Heading up towards Mt Stirling’s summit again, you will turn West on the West Summit Trail and make your way to Bluff Spur Memorial Hut where you can warm up while having lunch. There are some breathtaking views to be enjoyed from this trail, so take your time and soak it up.

If you haven’t summited Mt Stirling the day before, you will today, as long as weather permits.
The summit will provide you with breathtaking 360 degree views. You can even enjoy lunch at the summit if the weather is fine.

From Bluff Spur Memorial Hut it’s downhill all the way to Telephone Box Junction.
You will hike along a well maintained trail through gnarly Snow Gums. Make sure that you’re stopping regularly to take in your surroundings and see if you notice when you enter the Alpine Ash forest. That’s a sign that you are getting closer to the end of your winter snowshoe hiking adventure.

We hope that you enjoy this once in a lifetime hiking experience as much as we do.
