Brief – Day 1
The day prior to the start of the tour – briefing session at 6:00pm at Merrijig High Country Hotel.
Day 1 – approximately 8.8km (challenging – hard)
Time on track – approximately 8 hours 45 minutes including breaks
Meet at the Merrijig High Country Hotel car park at 7:00am for an 7:15am departure.
Travel approximately 45 minutes to the start of the track. Most of the drive is on an unsealed road.
Surrounded by beautiful bushland with Manna Gum trees, you will be heading uphill the whole day. The first 2km are very steep, then it eases off to a more manageable gradient. As you get higher up the mountain, the tall trees will be replaced with lower, dense bushes and you will enjoy occasional views of the surrounding peaks.
Your campsite will appear suddenly on a ridge with very little vegetation and that’s when you will be truly rewarded for your efforts with breathtaking views that stretch across valleys and over mountains.
Set up camp, prepare dinner and then settle down with a cuppa to watch one of Victoria High Country’s amazing sunsets, if Mother Nature is kind enough to deliver.
