Brief – Day 2
Day 2 – 8.8km (moderate – challenging)
Time on track – approximately 5 hours including stops and breaks
It is well worthwhile to get up in time for sunrise to see the early morning rays lighting up Craig’s Hut and tops of the mountains while the valleys are covered in morning mist. Craig’s Hut is stunning in any light and any weather. It is a place you will never forget.
Depart Craig’s Hut at 9:30am
Departing Craig’s Hut we will retrace our steps along the 4WD tracks and walking trails over The Monument to Mt Stirling. The hike up to The Monument will warm up your muscles and get your heart pumping ready for the longer and more challenging climb to Mt Stirling, but the wonderful environment you are surrounded with will make you forget about the challenge of an uphill hike. Soon enough you will be above the tree line just below Mt Stirling summit leaving the 4WD track behind. If the weather is on our side, we will stop here for lunch, the views are spectacular, and if not, we will continue downhill along a cross country ski trail to the Cricket Pitch Hut, where we can seek shelter during our lunch break. From here we will head on to King Saddle where we will pick up Circuit Road for the final stretch to Telephone Box Junction.
