Brief – Day 5
Day 5 – 4.1km (moderate)
Time on track – approximately 2 hours including stops and breaks
Sadly, today is the last day and also the shortest and easiest. Your pack will be lighter as by now you would have eaten most of your food and you will not need to carry much water. There is no rush this morning. If you get up early enough, you can watch the sun rise over Craig’s Hut and than take your time to enjoy breakfast and reflect on the last four days. By now you already know how much you are going to miss this stunning part of the world and hopefully you will be planning a return trip.
Leaving Craig’s Hut at 9:00am, you will follow a walking track up to The Monument. This is your last ascent on this five day adventure. From The Monument it’s all downhill along a 4WD track back to Circuit Road where you started five days ago. There are some steeper sections on this descent and your body will be tired, so take care where you step, how you step, and do not rush. Enjoy the last part of this five day adventure as much as possible.
Once we reach our final destination, you can give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
It’s about 1 hour drive back to Merrijig, arriving at the Merrijig Motor Inn just in time to shout yourself a rewarding pub meal.
Elevation at highest point: approx. 1560m ASL
Total ascent: approx. 210m
Total descent: approx. 400m
