Brief – Day 2
Day 2 – 8.8km (moderate – challenging)
Time on track – approximately 5 hours including stops and breaks
It is well worthwhile to get up in time for sunrise to see the early morning rays lighting up Craig’s Hut and tops of the mountains while the valleys are covered in morning mist. Craig’s Hut is stunning in any light and any weather. It is a place you will never forget.
Depart Craig’s Hut at 9:30am
Departing Craig’s Hut you will retrace your tracks along the 4WD track over The Monument to Mt Stirling. There is a short but challenging climb to The Monument and a longer challenging climb to Mt Stirling, but the wonderful environment you are surrounded with will make you forget about the challenge of an uphill walk and by the time you know it, you will find yourself above the tree line just below Mt Stirling summit leaving the 4WD track behind veering off to the right heading downhill along another cross country ski trail. Not far down this trail is your lunch stop at Cricket Pitch Hut. After lunch the trail continues to King Saddle where it joins Circuit Road for the final stretch to Telephone Box Junction.
