Brief – 1 Day

Return to Eagle Peak details.

5.6km (challenging – hard)
Time on track – approximately 4 hours 45 minutes including stops and breaks

Depart Merrijig at 8:15am from our meeting point in Merrijig Motor Inn (be at departure point 15 minutes prior).
Travel approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to Eight Mile Gap.                                                                                        Run through a briefing session.                                                                                                                                          Get ready and start walking at 10:30am.

The first hour of this walk takes you uphill through dense bush where the track is surrounded by thick ferns before it reaches a ridge where the track flattens with only slight undulations. This is where the bush thins out and the views of the surrounding mountains start opening up. The tall trees provide a nice shade on sunny days. This ridge section is a very pleasant walk. After another half hour we come to an open area with stunning views of Mt Buller to the North and many other peaks to the South. This last section is the most challenging, but also most exciting and lots of fun as we scramble up a steep scree hill to the top. Make sure that you take few short rest stops along this section to take in the views. Once at the top, you will experience 360 degree views and this is where you will be glad that you dragged along the camera, which you were thinking about leaving behind earlier on. When you have soaked up the views and taken plenty of photos, we will settle down for a well earned lunch before saying good bye to this beautiful destination and retracing our steps down hill to our starting point.

You can sit back, relax and enjoy a snack at Eight Mile Gap before heading back to Merrijig.
