Nature’s Path to the Summit
5km (moderate – hard) Time on track – approximately 2 hours including stops for sightseeing and time at the summit
Meet at the Clock Tower at Mt Buller’s Village Square 15 minutes prior to start of the hiking tour.
We will run through a briefing session, approximately 10 minutes. All tours must depart on time, so please make sure that you arrive early enough for the briefing session.
Enjoy a guided walk that will take you from the Village Square to the summit of Mt Buller via the Summit Nature Walk. The first section of this hike will take you through the North part of the village past lovely lodges with views over the North side ski runs and across to Mt Stirling. From there, you will follow the Summit Nature Walk, where you will enjoy the beauty of the snow gums, wildflowers and wildlife. It’s so easy to get distracted by the beauty of this area that you don’t even realise you’re walking uphill. The last section is a steep climb to the summit. Yes, it is steep, and it will get your heart racing, but the reward of 360 degree views once you get to the top is well worth the effort. Once you reach the summit, you can relax, take in the views and plenty of photos as you watch the colours change and the sun set beyond the horizon. When coming down the steep section from the summit, you need to take care and watch your step, which can be hard to do when there are such amazing views around you. But don’t worry, you will have enough time to stop and enjoy them. This is a great hike for families with children even though you might need to carry the little ones for part of the walk as they might get tired. However, you’ll know that after a nice hike where they get to breathe plenty of fresh mountain air, they’ll get a good night sleep.
