Hidden Gem Hike
7.5km (easy – moderate) Time on track – approximately 3 hours including stops for sightseeing
Meet at Carters Mill carpark 15 minutes prior to start of the hiking tour. Carters Mill carpark is accessible by a 2WD vehicle and there is plenty of parking.
We will run through a briefing session, approximately 10 minutes. All tours must depart on time, so please make sure that you arrive early enough for the briefing session.
Enjoy a guided walk through part of the high country that has not yet been discovered by crowds.
The track winds along a creek surrounded by lush ferns and a beautiful forest of tall trees with pretty bridges over creek crossings. The water in the creek is crystal clear and at times you can spot fish swimming, enjoying the quiet waters. There are beautiful wildflowers and interesting fungi to look out for, plus birds, bugs, lizards, butterflies and many other living creatures that keep popping up along the way. There are some steeper ascents and descents, but only very short sections that any person of any fitness level can easily tackle and you’ll know that the hike is well worth it when you arrive at the end of the track, where a beautiful hidden gem is waiting, the Plain Creek Falls. After spending some time at the waterfalls, snapping a few pics and enjoying its relaxing and calming atmosphere, you’ll make your way back to the start of the track retracing your steps for part of the way.
This is a great hike for families with children from 8 years onward. If you have children younger than 8 years, check out our Plain Creek Falls Discovery Hike or Baldy Loop Discovery Hike. Both these hikes are suitable for children as young as 4 years old, or younger if you’re happy to piggyback them for part of the walk should they get tired.
